Floral Designer

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for finishing touches on all floral designs leaving the shop.

  • Responsible for daily studio production including floral processing, container prep and cooler organization/clean-up.  

  • Design arrangements for all daily orders, including walk-in floral and plant sales. Experienced in techniques and execution for a wide variety of design types and large scale installations.  

  • Partaking in event setup and occasional tear down. 

  • Assist and collaborate with Event Coordinator & Manager on event  logistics and floral ordering.

  • Manage Floral Subscriptions for clients. 

  • Building vendor relationship with floral wholesalers.

  • Inform Management of low and out of stock items in floral area.

  • Answer phones, take orders and answer questions from customers. 

  • Proper packaging and organizing of all outgoing orders. 

  • Assist customers on sale floor when necessary.    

  • Conduit between Shop Manager and OBB team on daily floral deliveries, walk-ins and unexpected client floral requests.

  • Purchase flowers for daily orders and week events. Must have a trained eye and understanding company aesthetic in order to select fabulous palettes and premium floral that is also financially-conscious relevant to the order/project. 

  • Oversee day-to-day operations making sure everything that leaves the shop is up to company standard. ie: all flowers are fresh, design is beautiful and on-brand, and specific clients needs are met. This also includes working with the driver directly to make sure everything is going out at a timely manner.  

  • Responsible for creations of all original designs for the evolving changes in the industry. Open to new ideas and our “out of the box” thinking and our company's aesthetics.  

  • Work with the OBB General Manager and/or Owner to produce custom recipes and floral orders for large scale events and weddings up to two weeks before each event. Organization is key in order to manage multiple events per week.  

  • Working with the General Manager and coordinating in-house staff. Requires a knack for picking up on employees strengths and assigning them tasks having to do with floral production that are up to their abilities.  

  • Collaborate with General Manager and/or Owner and staff to ensure elements of each and every order are considered and executed in a way that fulfills the clients visions

  • Work closely with our Wedding and Event Coordinator to create original and interesting designs tailored to each client's interest and ensure the designs are meeting the clients and preferences

  • Assist with wedding & event load in and setup, including hands on installation/design. Work with team to ensure timelines have been met, and all vendors interactions are professional, positive and unhurried.

  • In this position you will be responsible for creating and executing unique designs, as well as those requested by clients. Must be able to design and create independently, and efficiently.

REQUIREMENTS  ​​

  • 2+ years experience in floral design (event and design)

  • Time management, and strong organizational skills 

  • Knowledge of flower types, design techniques and industry trends 

  • Ability to work wedding/large event weekends & flower holidays

  • Ability to work collaborate and work closely with Owner, Management, Event Coordinator and staff

  • Floral Market, Farm and hard good supply pickups will be required. Required to have a reliable source of transportation and valid driver's license to travel in the local Southeast Michigan region and feel comfortable driving company truck.  

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND
SHOP ENVIRONMENT

  • Ability to lift a minimum of 35 pounds on a regular basis and labor related tasks will be asked of you.

  • Ability to stand for long duration of time.  

  • Olive’s BloomBox Shop is open year-round. We run as a Floral Studio, Garden Center and Boutique in a small and fast-paced environment. We’re surrounded by beautiful live plants and flowers but with that comes dirt, water and Mother Nature plays a huge role in our day to day working environment. We’re trendy, but comfortable and come dressed to work hard, get dirty and adapt to the weather.
